Can You Beat the Odds?

We all know Vegas style games like blackjack, craps, and roulette are famously rigged such that the odds are in the house’s favor.  This inspired me to design my own Vegas style game in which the odds are in the players favor, and I’ve brought it with me for us to play.  Can you beat the odds?

Tori Noquez

Dr. Tori Noquez completed her Ph.D. at University of Illinois at Chicago in 2017 under the direction of Dr. David Marker. Her thesis, titled Vaught’s Two-Cardinal Theorem and Notions of Minimality in Continuous Logic, adapts results from classical model theory to continuous model theory (a framework better suited for studying metric spaces). She is an assistant professor at Saint Mary’s College of California and her current line of research, a collaboration with Dr. Todd Schmid and Dr. Larry Moss is centered around unfolding a surprising connection between fractal geometry and category theory. Outside of math, Dr. Noquez is an accomplished professional magician. Described by The New York Times as a “math professor by day, conjurer by night”, she has shared her magic all over the country and is a frequent headliner at The World-Famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA. Check her out on the hit CW TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
