Harry Baker always thought poetry and maths were entirely separate parts of his life. He loved maths because of the satisfaction of there being right answers, and he loved poetry because of the freedom of there being fewer wrong ones. When he was a maths student he used to write poems to put off doing his homework, and now that he is a full-time poet he does maths problems to put off writing. Only looking back did he realise the whole reason he got into writing was because of maths, and through learning to celebrate the patterns, beauty, and out and out playfulness of the two side by side, show that maths, poetry, and indeed all of us may have more in common than we think.
